Pharm Elearn - FUN AND ENGAGING INTERACTIVE LEARNING ONLINE Because some things just can't be taught from training manuals.

THE ULTIMATE ELEARNING EXPERIENCE

I’m an emergency physician.  I’m also an educationalist.  I mostly teach junior doctors and medical students.  I do a little reviewing of clinical studies as well.  But my hobby is computer graphic art and story telling.  Creation of fun elearning modules enables me to combine all my strengths to bring to you an engaging online learning experience.

Elearning has advantages in that it ensures coverage of large numbers of staff that cannot be released all at once for other teaching sessions.  Compliance can also be assessed.  There have been multiple studies1 showing that elearning can be of equal efficacy to face-to-face learning, and in some cases it is even more efficacious than face-to-face (the previous gold standard), naturally depending on the nature of the elearning.

Elearning began its life as powerpoint with a few quiz questions.  And we have all come to expect that elearning will be a slick looking presentation, text and voice over heavy, with very little graphics apart from diagrams.  However it is capable of so much more, but rather sadly, from what I've seen, it usually doesn't even come close to reaching its full potential.

By using video, including narrative, humour, and visual imagery to stimulate engagement, with a ton of interactivity including feedback for the quiz, it is hoped that this will be a very effective tool that could potentially also be used for many other industries besides the pharmaceutical industry.

Darren is a registred nurse and has a been a clinical educator for many years.
